Richard Mann

A FREELANCE WRITER AND PHOTOGRAPHER
FROM WEST VIRGINIA

Richard was born and raised in the West Virginia hills and literally grew up in the woods. He has always been involved in some facet of hunting, shooting or fishing either as an obsessed participant or observer. Richard has chased coon hounds until daylight, waited out whitetails perched high in an oak, canoed the New River and chased big game animals from the Montana Mountains to the Green Hills of Africa. With all the snake catching, woods roaming and river running, it is a wonder his parents remain sane.

During service in the Army and later as a municipal police officer and most recently as a railroad detective Richard obtained numerous certifications in small arms instruction. He has trained many military personnel, law enforcement officers and civilians in the application of firearms for defensive, competitive and recreational use. Richard won the West Virginia Governor’s Twenty Award for law enforcement, the West Virginia National Guard State Pistol Competition and earned his Distinguished Medal with pistol.

With his badge turned in Richard now writes columns & features for a variety of magazines and has had hundreds of articles published in various outdoors and firearms periodicals. He was the compiling author of the book, Rifle Bullets for the Hunter and has a patent on a riflescope reticle for hunters and on a revolutionary bullet testing media. Richard is a true product of the Appalachians and a hillbilly at heart. He still lives in West Virginia with the most understanding wife in the world, their three kids and vicious chocolate lab.
