Defensive Shotguns are taken by granted by almost everyone except the folks they get pointed at. Even cops constantly overlook them; rarely taking them out of the car and receiving far less training on them than needed.
I will never forget responding to a call of a violent rottweiler on the loose that had just attacked a young child. When I got out of the car my patrol shotgun was in hand.
Though they have been eager to develop law enforcement loads, ammunition manufacturers have ignored the home defense aspect of the shotgun too.
